REMO electrifies public Transport in Famalicão, Santo Tirso and Trofa
Transdev selected REMO – Powered by Mota-Engil through an international public tender to deliver a fully integrated electrification solution for the Mobiave public transport network, serving the municipalities of Vila Nova de Famalicão, Santo Tirso and Trofa. Combining electric buses, smart charging infrastructure, energy management and long-term maintenance, the project establishes a new benchmark for electric public transport operations in Portugal.

The challenge
As one of Portugal’s leading public transport operators, Transdev faced the challenge of transitioning an important regional bus network to zero-emission mobility while maintaining operational reliability and service quality.
The project demanded a complete new ecosystem capable of supporting daily operations across multiple municipalities, including:
- Reliable electric buses with high operational availability
- A scalable charging infrastructure capable of supporting future fleet expansion
- Intelligent energy management to optimise charging cycles and electricity consumption
- A maintenance strategy that minimises operational risk and maximises fleet uptime
Transdev required a partner capable of delivering an end-to-end electrification solution rather than individual components.
Execution
The project was developed through a fully integrated approach:
- SYSTEM DESIGN: REMO engineered a complete electrification solution tailored to the operational requirements of the Mobiave network, combining fleet, charging infrastructure and smart energy management into a single platform.
- FLEET DEPLOYMENT: In partnership with HIGER, REMO supplied 22 fully electric 12-metre buses equipped with onboard USB charging, Wi-Fi connectivity and integrated telematics, enabling real-time fleet monitoring and operational optimisation.
- CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE: REMO designed and deployed a smart charging system with 2,600 kVA installed capacity, supporting up to 30 ultra-fast charging points of up to 300 kW and allowing intelligent power distribution across the network.
- ENERGY MANAGEMENT: The integrated energy management platform dynamically allocates available power according to operational requirements, optimising charging schedules while improving infrastructure efficiency and reducing energy costs.
- LONG-TERM SUPPORT: Beyond deployment, REMO provides preventive maintenance, technical support and energy management services, ensuring high fleet availability, operational continuity and long-term reliability.
This integrated approach allows Transdev to operate one of Portugal’s most advanced electric regional bus networks while creating a scalable platform for future fleet expansion.
